Remembering Miley's Iconic VMA Performance!

5 years ago, Miley Cyrus broke the internet when her performance with Robin Thick at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards went viral!

It was during this time that Miley was trying to destroy her 'Hannah Montana' image and become a more outrageous and sexualised star, safe to say it worked!

To promote her album 'Bangerz' Miley performed her number one hit 'We Can't Stop' before stripping off to the iconic nude two piece, twerking on Robin Thick and doing unspeakable things with a foam finger!

Love it or hate it, this performance was iconic. Miley said in an interview that she 'wanted to make history' and oh boy she did! The duo had a record breaking 306,000 tweets per minute during the controversial performance, her music video for 'Wrecking Ball' (which dropped the same day) broke the record for most views in 24 hours on Vevo and everyone was talking about them for weeks.

No surprise that her album Bangerz went straight to number one in the US selling 270,000 units in it's first week and would go on to be certified 3X platinum in America selling 3 million copies.

Will another VMA performance ever be this influential in pop culture? We'll have to wait and see what tonight brings! You can watch the record breaking performance below!
